Perfume Chat Room, April 10

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is April 10, and it is Good Friday, as well as Passover. Easter may be my favorite holiday of the year, maybe even more than Christmas, which I love, because it happens in the spring when all the flowers are blooming and the weather is usually beautiful where I live, and because it just happens, there isn’t a three-month build-up period. Also, I love chocolate and Easter is THE holiday for chocoholics!

Aside from the necessary solemnity of Good Friday and Passover, Easter is a joyous holiday too. Do any of you fragrance lovers have a special fragrance you’re planning to wear to celebrate it? I love my muguet fragrances, and they are in bloom here right now, so I could go with one of my many lilies of the valley, or I could go with an actual lily fragrance, also some of my favorites. The blue iris are also blooming now, so I could choose an iris-centric scent, or I could play to the chocolate theme and go with a gourmand (unlikely, given my love for florals, but still possible!). For me, it’s a little early to go with roses, even though I have a few blooming now.  Share your thoughts about Easter or Passover fragrances, or just your thoughts about any aspect of fragrance! And have a wonderful holiday weekend, at a safe distance of course.

  1. As the weather was really good today I put on my summery scents, so I wore Jasmin Angélique plus Untitled L’Eau, so I smelled very green and fresh. I just bought a bottle of the Untitled for this summer, because I happily thunked a 10ml decant last year and wished for more… I hope you will have a nice Easter weekend, we can still call our relatives and bond over phone or Skype.

  2. I love the photos. I’ve been feeling very down today.Staying in is really getting to me. I live alone. Two of my GreatGrandaughters have birthdays tomorrow and Sunday. I know we facetime and the family do a group txt everyday to keep in touch, but it;s not the same.
I’ve worn L’Instant today. Love it
    Keep safe everyone XXXX

    • Thank you! I’m sorry to hear you’re having a down day, that is so natural under these dreadful circumstances. You’re right, these online gatherings are better than nothing but not the same as the real thing. L’Instant sounds beautiful! I’ve never tried it, but it’s on my to-do list. What do you like about it?

    • Hang in there Matty, this too shall pass and we will be spending time with our family and friends again. Birthdays can be celebrated at anytime, no matter not the actual date right? I understand the loneliness, I’m sending fragrant hugs to you and glad to see you here for the perfume chats. You smell beautiful in L’Instant, I always think of you when I wear my Guerlain’s. xx

      • Thank you, Kathleen for your very kind words.
I’ve seen videos of my 2 yrs old Greatgrandaughter opening her pressies and blowing her candles out on her birthday cake. I wouldn’t have seen her in person anyway as they live hundreds of miles away from me. My daughter , 4 Grandaughters and their children all live nearby. Because of social distancing we cannot have a birthday tea party for the 5yr old.We are all going to facetime to see her cut her cake and sing happy birthday.

  3. Easter is my favourite celebration, a time for rebirth and renewal. And longer, brighter days. And colour. And getting outside (well, in the normal course of things). There’s also virtually zero stress involved, no crazy shopping, no head scratching over presents. No dark and freezing days. It will be a bit different this year but as long as we’re fit and well that’s all that matters. We actually got out into the garden this week in an effort to put some small shape on it. Lawn mowing, fence painting, bit of weeding, hedge trimming. It’s looking a bit better. A visit to a garden centre wouldn’t go amiss. Maybe I could buy some green fingers there😉 Today I wore Orange Sanguine, one of the happiest frags ever. I wore my best lily this week already – DK Gold. I might wear Baiser Vole on Sunday🤔

  4. I have been doing a combination of wearing my big perfumes and some sampling. This week I wore Fruitchouli Flash byTauerville, Tauer Maroc pour Elle, Goutal Quel Amour!, Hiram Green Shangri La, and Ormonde Jayne Ambre Royal (the last isn’t that big, but it snowed yesterday morning so I wanted an amber.). Sampling has been a set of Bond No 9 given to me by a friend. Nothing terribly interesting. Meeting with my landscaper today, a few things needed in the yard and wanting to help him stay afloat. Will make a quick masked store run to find something for Easter dinner and replenish fresh items. I’m usually an almost-daily grocery shopper so going to many fewer large trips has been a learning experience (in addition to making our meals more boring, which my family might secretly appreciate.). Stay safe all.

  5. Hey All,
It’s been food crazy here. The refrigerator is groaning under the weight of leftovers. We’ve had to make a plan on how to eat them so nothing goes to waste.
Jin’s home from work for the Easter Weekend. We are TV watching, dog walking, eating and enjoying ourselves.
My BIG fragrance discovery is Fleur Diamantine by Maison Crivelli. It’s a cool green floral. Unlike anything else in my collection but reminiscent of the way Malle’s En Passant and Grandiflora’s Michel feel. Same sheer/hefty feel and sparkling like sun on snow. It’s beautiful. I’m jonesing for a FB.

  6. Luckily I had a few samples I hadn’t tried yet, so I went through those this week. No new loves, though. I tried Feminite du Bois for the first time and was surprised at the cardamom that appeared much later than the fruity, woody notes at the opening.
A floral sounds quite appropriate this weekend! Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful holiday.

  7. I enjoy Easter very much as well, for all of the reason that you and cassieflower mentioned. I wore Creed Fantasia de Fleur the past couple of days, a beautiful floral for the warmer spring-like days this week. Tomorrow Colorado will get a cold front with two days of snow and freezing temps, not the best weather for Easter. I will watch an Easter service online and wear vintage Chanel Cristalle. As soon as the snow melts, I’ll be reaching for lighter pretty florals.
You’re fortunate to have such an early spring and flowers already OH! Trees are barely budding here in my locale.

  8. SOTE: scent of today’s Easter is Guerlain Muguet 2016, a beautiful and special fragrance. I compared it to the real lilies of the valley now blooming outside, and it is EXACTLY like them. Brilliant!

      • The one I have is the glass inside the silver “shell”, it’s so pretty! Believe it or not, I was able to get it with Amazon points! My husband and I work long hours and he travels a lot, and we still have kids at home when not at school, so we have quite a few products on monthly recurring orders with Amazon. Those points add up! And a seller there had a few bottles of the Muguet I wanted, at its original list price but not inflated, so I used all the points to get it.
