Perfume Chat Room, May 29

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV. As regular readers know, I am in the middle of a “Roses de Mai Marathon” during which I am trying to post a daily review of a different rose scent. That will continue today (post will come later), but in the meantime, please feel free to chat! At an appropriate social distance, of course.

Today is Friday, May 29 and the month of May is almost over. I can’t say I’ll miss it, other than the beautiful sequence of blossoms I’ve enjoyed in my garden. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster of a month, but as we approach its finish line, I’m happy to say that all is well. How about you? Do you have any special hopes or plans for June? What’s your SOTD?

  1. I wore Tauer Une Rose Chypree today, my favorite of the Tauer roses. It’s a little too humid though; for the evening I’m going to switch to something lighter and more refreshing. I enjoyed your month of roses – I could not have done it. Maybe a month of amber in the winter! My township had a parade today (fire, police, EMT, decorated school bus) which went by every high school senior’s home – 423 of them. While not exactly what they hoped for it was still something. Now we just need to get school reopened for the fall….

  2. May has been strange. Some really cold weather and even a short storm last Friday. Tomorrow we will have summery temperatures, at least during the day, so the long weekend comes off to a good start. I have been wearing the uncomplicated Atelier Cologne Clementine Calefornia today, still need the energy boost from my citrus perfumes. We have a difficult work project to handle and the difficulties have little to do with the work from home situation, it is all about getting the needed help/resources from other parts of the organisation.

Also, May 17 (our Constitution Day) had no parade and just some pop-up performances by marching bands, so not at all like usual. Cafées can now serve alcohol again so gradually open up, but there’s still all these restrictions with physical distancing, so I have not yet been tempted to meet friends for lunch or dinner and a good glass of wine. However, it does seem like the worst is behind us for now with the corona virus, so that is a relief! I even managed to get tested, and the test came out negative, so next week I can finally get some physiotherapy again. Sadly, the gyms are not allowed to open just yet, so getting into the old routine of exercise won’t happen before August for my part.

I have enjoyed reading about different rose perfumes, even if rose is not a favourite note for me in perfume. Your writing has made me want to try some new to me rose perfumes. I should wear my Tauer URC again soon, too. It is such a loud and persistent perfume that I usually wear it when alone.

Most travel restrictions are still in place, so no big plans for June. Even summer holidays this year may become a staycation.

    • Congratulations on the negative test! My husband and son and I got tested last weekend, all negative. Whew! I’m glad you’re getting that citrus boost. Some days, one really needs that.

  3. I’ve enjoyed reading about different rose perfumes and your impressions. Thank you for all of your time and efforts, they are appreciated! Even though I haven’t commented mostly due to the fact that I’m not familiar with most of the perfumes reviewed, I have enjoyed learning about them. I wore Ormande Jayne Rose Gold recently, I think this is my favorite rose perfume.
May was an uneventful month mostly, a quiet birthday and have been enjoying the nicer weather and nature. Businesses are opening in CO of course with restrictions but it feels overall so much better!

    • Thanks for coming along on the marathon! Yes, it feels good to get out a bit more. I’m still almost entirely at home but I ventured out to my local garden center this week, where they are being very careful about masks and other safety measures.

  4. I don’t know how you do it with the daily posts: I barely get time to read them – let alone write 🙂

Thanks to your nudge, yesterday I decided to wear Rose d’Amour. What a beauty! I fall in love with it over and over every time I wear it.

My June won’t be much different from May, I think: work from home, daily walks in the evening, shop for food every 9-10 days, everything else – online.

  5. Hey there OH,
May has been wonderful. Lockdown has been a revelation. It’s surprising how little I need to do to keep myself occupied and happy. It’s brought a newfound joy and gratitude in my relationship as well, not that I was ever taking it for granted or unhappy with it.
The best thing lockdown has done for me is to get me reading books again.
Also, when we do see people the excitement and happiness is tenfold because it’s so rare and precious.
Never in my life have I been so relaxed and sedentary.
Our state looks like it’s coming out of lockdown from tomorrow. Fingers crossed I’ll be back working by July.
    Portia xx
