Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, July 10, and we are going to the beach! Truly, I can’t wait to have a short vacation and go to the beach. I’m very grateful to still have a job and a paycheck, but my colleagues and I have been working double-time since March to adjust to the twists and turns of this pandemic, and the changes it has brought to higher education. My family is pretty fair-skinned, so we won’t be out in the sun all day every day, but we plan to look at the ocean as much and as close up as possible.
What fragrances should I take? What do you like to wear on beach vacations? Happy weekend!
WOO HOO! Love a beach holiday. Will you have somewhere shady to sit and read while watching the beach and surf go by?
One thing I love about being near big bodies of water is that it regulates the temperatures a bit and usually there is an ocean breeze even in the hottest days. Will you be going all coconut and suntan lotion style or aquatics, maybe a vetiver or a jasmine? OOOH! So much choice.
Have a wonderful time.
Life in Sydney is almost back to normal. Restaurants and bars are back open and weekend shopping today was back to crowded.

Yes, we brought a beach canopy! I brought Amouage beach hut, Commodity Bergamot and Vetiver, Beach, and a couple of Lili Bermudas.

OOOH! I often look at those beach canopies. Did you get an igloo, scallop shape, 3 sided tent or poles & roof? How is it working?

It’s a big square, 10 x 10 feet, on four poles. It works great! You open up a folding metal frame, put the cloth canopy on, then raise it all the way. And its case has wheels!

Wonderful. Sounds like you had heaps of shade to watch the world go by from.

We’ve seen other people using another beach shade we really like, it’s called a Shibumi Shade: https://shibumishade.com/. It really works, the wind holds it up.

Bloody annoying if the wind changes direction though.

I’ wishing you a fabulous and relaxing getaway to the beach. It sounds like a vacation is in order after your double time work. I loved the sun in my younger years, now I’m more of a cover-up and shade person. Even if you’re not in the sun, you can enjoy the sights and scents of the ocean and beach. I don’t take beach vacations and therefore, I can’t really recommend any beach perfumes other than the obvious Bobbi Brown “Beach.” I wonder if the Sylvaine Delacourte musk, vanilla, and orange blossom fragrances would be appropriate, if you purchased any samples. They are light, playful, and so pretty.

Great idea! I do have Beach and those samples, and I also have a travel spray of Amouages Beach Hut Woman.

Enjoy your well earned break. A beach holiday is just the thing to hit the reset button. Even if you don’t want to sit sunning yourself you can get under a beach brolly and gaze at the water. It is quite mesmerizing, I find. If I was going to the beach this year I’d be bringing, amongst others, Sex and the Sea, plus the Neroli version of that perfume. Bronze Goddess always hits the spot as well.

I just came back from a mini-vacation. I even saw an ocean (for 3 minutes from a vista point and 15 minutes of driving by it 🙂 ).
For the colder ocean trips, I wear Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. For warm (tropical) ocean my two favorites are Bronze Goddess and Yosh Ginger Ciao.
Enjoy your vacation!
