Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, February 5, and here in the US we are looking forward to the Superbowl football championship and we are also celebrating Black History Month. American politics continue to be turbulent, but I won’t dwell on that although I do pay close attention. Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, and a favorite independent retailer of high-end fragrances, Twisted Lily, has a sale this weekend, 14% off on a select collection of fragrances with the code VDAY14. Do any of you know of any other tempting sales?
Do you have a fragrance you particularly like to wear on Valentine’s Day or other romantic occasions? Like many people, I associate roses with Valentine’s Day and romance, so I think I will wear Jo Loves’ Rose Petal 25. As regular readers here know, I have many rose fragrances from which to choose! Do you have any special plans for Valentine’s Day, in this constrained environment?
Valentine’s Day. Hmmm. I had not thought about my scent for that day until now. I’ll wear Guerlain’s Quand Vient la Pluie, which has a beautiful almond note with some rose also that will be perfect for the day. I associate Valentine’s day with flowers and candy more than fragrance. The marketers have gotten to me over the years. Quand Vient la Pluie will go well with the almond macaroons I ordered for Valentine’s Day. The company is called Michelle’s Macs and the candy is divine!

We pretty much ignore Valentines Day in our house😳. Today I’m wearing Hypnotic Poison. It’s supposed to be favorite Friday – I wouldn’t say this is in my top 10 but still one that I wear often enough to sort-of qualify. I was in a big hurry this morning so I didn’t have time to weigh the implications of choosing some of my higher ranked perfumes!

Yes, weighing the implications of perfume choices is serious business, and requires time! I bet you smell wonderful, though.

Hi there OH,
Valentine’s Day i like the idea of wearing Mohur but I’m not promising anything. I could very easily be led astray by another bottle.
Quite a few of the Australian discounter sites are having sales but I just bought Fleur Diamantine and a backup of Amouage Ubar (word from the Oz distributor is that it’s been DCd). So probably not able to bust out and take advantage.

So disciplined of you! I didn’t know Ubar was discontinued, that’s a shame.

Happy days indeed! BTW, thanks to you I have bought a bottle of Niki de Sainte Phalle Eau Defendue! Haven’t opened it yet, though.

OOOOHHHH! Amazing OH! I hope it brings you joy with every wear, as it does me.
SO exciting, and getting really hard to find.

I know, I pounced on it when I saw a bottle with my own Zodiac sign, at a reasonable price.

For Valentine’s Day, I’ll probably wear Portrait of a Lady, as I’m bought in to the association with red roses.
It feels too soon after the end-of-year splurge to start buying perfumes again – I’m trying to be more selective this year!

Portrait of a Lady is always right!

Traditionally, for Valentine’s day I wear Parfums de Rosine Rose d’Amour, so probably I’ll do it again, though I have several contenders this year… Probably, starting Monday, I’ll do “rose countdown” to the day wearing rose-centric perfumes.

Ooh, I have that one! It’s lovely.

That’s a good idea! I have 3 Parfums de Rosines that I can wear before Valentine’s day, Glam Rose, Muguet et Rose and Rose d’Ete. I have my eye on La Amie de la Rose also whenever Beauty Habit has another 20% off sale. And I can wear my other roses leading up to Valentine’s day, Ormonde Jayne Ta’if, Keiko Mecheri Attar de Roses, KM Damascena and Diptyque Rose Insensees

So I decided to give myself a Valentine’s gift (I’ll let my husband take credit, lol) and I’ve ordered 2 ml sprays of the two latest fragrances from St. Clair Scents, Seeking Balance and Song of Aubrac. They both sound like scents I would like very much, and I’m trying to support more of our independent artisan perfumers as this pandemic drags on and on.

Hey OH,
I’ve been thinking so hard about this Year of the Metal Ox/Valentine’s Day week and tonight for bed I’m wearing CK Contradiction woman. It’s a gorgeous workhorse (or ox) of a fragrance that seems to fit well in many situations. It’s a metallic, space age rose that fits with both this weeks celebrations.
I’ve just spritzed myself wet with it and am loving how large it is in triplicate.
