Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, August 20, and I have been swarmed by mosquitoes in a 15-minute trip to my backyard. So my theme for today is bug repellent. I spray Deet formulas on outer clothes, and a lemon/eucalytpus blend on skin. I actually sort of like the way it smells. Do you have any secret scent formulas to keep bugs away? Or do any of your favorite fragrances seem to attract bugs more than the norm?
Mosquitoes are the worst! My skin really swells up after a bite and it itches for days. I rely on the DEET, even though it clashes with any perfume I might wear.

I react poorly to the bites too; I have found that a combination of non-drowsy antihistamine and acetaminophen does help.

DEET is my go to and I love Citronella candles also.

I like citronella too! Sometimes I use an environmentally friendly yard bomb spray that has rosemary, thyme, etc, and it honestly smells wonderful.

P.S. I just read on NST that today is World Mosquito Day! So I got the theme right — but who celebrates mosquitoes??

Hey OH,
Jin is bitten to pieces by mosquitoes but they rarely bite me. He also is thoroughly allergic to the bite and they remain painfully and itchily swollen for days. If there’s a mozzie in the room it will get him.

Oh no, poor Jin!

Yeah, as we head into mozzie season here he’s already stocking fresh repellents.

I’m wearing Toujours Espoir today, from the brand that we both like that helps out children in the Grasse area. I love it more every time I spray it on. I’ll bet the mosquitoes would love it, but I’m not giving them a chance to get at me today…

Good plan! You smell great, and they would probably think so too!

Gladly mosquitoes are no big problem here, so usually no need for sprays.
