Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Saturday, June 18, and I’m posting a day late because of more travel! Within the US this time, for another wedding (which is what kept me from posting last weekend!). We are at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, which we haven’t visited in several years, since we brought our kids here. The weather has dawned bright, sunny, and 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. That’s not a typo. Much of the Eastern US is having a heatwave. Luckily for this bride and groom, some storms blew through Virginia last night and pushed the heatwave away temporarily. Apparently it will be back up to 100 later this week!
Do you wear fragrances during heatwaves? Which do you find refreshing, or at least tolerable? Probably my favorite hot weather fragrance is Hermes’ Un Jardin Sur le Nil, famously created by Jean-Claude Ellena, as documented by Chandler Burr in the book “The Perfect Scent.” I’m really enjoying Carthusia’s new release, A’mmare.
Stay cool, friends!
I love Williamsburg! I haven’t visited it since I was in high school, many years ago. I’ve been concentrating on cooling fragrances for summer and scents that bloom nicely in the heat. We’ve had ‘heat advisories’ just about every day for the last week or so, meaning with the humidity, the heat index is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees C. for everyone else in the world. Whew, hot!!! I’ve switched my exercise to the pool, which we finally got under control, but it requires constant monitoring.
I’m loving my tea fragrances now, finding them very refreshing. Bvlgari’s The Vert and The Bleu, Parfums de Nicolai’s Fig Tea and Parfums de Rosine Mon Ami de Rose. Other hot weather faves, Prada’s Infusions de Rose and Iris and Guerlain’s Pera Granita, Joyeuese Tuberose and Neroli Outrenoir. Chanel’s new Paris Paris is a great hot weather refresher also.

Thanks! This coming week I’ll also be wearing some citrusy scents, Jean-Claude Ellena’s Bergamotto and Mandarino for Laboratoro Olfattivo and Teo Cabanel’s Meloe, perfect for Summer. Also I Profumi di firenze’s Sal et Dune, so pretty. I keep returning to Sal et Dune, maybe because it has a perfect summery peach note that is not too sweet, just right.

I like Prada Infusions of Iris. I think a lot of Guerlain AA’s would suit hot weaather.

I agree! And I like Infusion d’Iris too, it’s lovely. Have you ever tried Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Nirmal? That’s another nice iris fragrance for warm weather.

I like Lutens’ Iris Silver Mist for summer, too. It has a very cold vibe to my nose. Spraying it on is like going into a refrigerated room for me.
