Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, May 28, and it’s the start of the Memorial Day weekend here in the US! I don’t have any big plans but wow, it’s such a relief to have so many of us fully vaccinated so we CAN make plans. What a contrast to Memorial Day last year, when the pandemic was really accelerating and little was known about prevention or treatment. This Memorial Day, I will be remembering the many Americans and others who died from COVID-19, as well as those who have died in the military service of our country, the original purpose of our Memorial Day.
On a more cheerful note, today I am testing one of Chanel’s Eaux: Paris-Venise. I like it a lot so far! Have you tried any of the Eaux? I know Undina has, including the newest one, Paris-Edimbourg. (It feels so weird to spell Edinburgh that way). Or, what else are you sampling this weekend?
I have not sampled any of these, but they sound appealing. SOTD is What I did on my holidays for the CP on NST

I smelled Paris-Deauville and Paris-Riviera on separate occasions in a store, but neither won me over. Both had a salty note to me on the blotter. I ordered a bottle of Calvin Klein Contradiction after reading Portia’s and then Sam’s reviews (it’s also kind of “one that got away” when I was younger) so am excited to try that out! Enjoy the long weekend!

We are on our way to Georgia to visit Georgia tech and then Clemson for my son who will be applying to colleges SOON! Wearing La Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto. I own Paris-Deauville (my favorite) and Paris-Riviera. The new one sounds interesting- want to try but don’t expect to buy based on what I’ve read. Have a great holiday weekend to US friends!

Some sad news: Marie-Helene Rogeon of Parfums de Rosine has died: https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Marie-Helene-Rogeon-of-Les-Parfums-de-Rosine-Has-Passed-Away-15094.html. I love several of her creations. One consolation is that the brand has already announced that her son will continue the business, as he has been training to do for several years.

YAY that you can celebrate this year OH. That must feel like such freedom.
LOVE the CHANEL Eaux line. Can’t wait to try the new one. I’m pretty sure it’s in Oz but I keep forgetting when I’m in town.

Paris-Venise is my favorite from the line, and I have a bottle of it. The rest from the line were less interesting for me, though I should probably get Paris-Deauville (even though I still have an almost full decant) before they’ve reformulated it (and I’m sure they will).
