Perfume Chat Room, April 8

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is Friday, April 8, and we’ve gone from one weather extreme to another here. The week started out as gorgeous springtime, sunny and blooming. It was “Scent Semantics” Monday, and I got to choose the word this month, which was “vernal.” Then we had two days of violent storms, including a couple with extremely loud thunder and lots of lightning, accompanied by a 20-degree drop in temperatures. Our dog Lucy was NOT happy!

Lucy, not happy

Yesterday and today dawned bright and sunny again, and Lucy’s tail is wagging. She loves to lie in the sun outside in our garden (which is totally fenced, with a secured gate). We celebrated our wedding anniversary this week, which brought to mind the strange mix of weather we had on our wedding day: April snow, April showers, brilliant sunshine amid April flowers.

This weekend is Palm Sunday, soon to be followed by Easter. I love Easter, maybe even more than Christmas because it is so vernal (see what I did there?). I adore the many Easter flowers on display indoors and out. I love Easter food (we always have a traditional roast leg of lamb), and I love having our kids home for the holiday. I love the Easter music and services at our church

April this year is filled with important holidays: Passover, Ramadan, Easter. I enjoy learning about all the different traditions. I wish I’d had more opportunities to learn about them when I was in school, as my children have had, but better late than never.

I think my Easter fragrance will be vintage Dior Lily. It’s a lovely combination of spring florals, mostly Muguet and white lilies. As many of you know, though, I have SO many muguet fragrances that I won’t lack for choices!

Do you have any upcoming celebrations or favorite fragrances to match with holidays?

  1. Happy Anniversary! We may get snow again tomorrow… sigh. I’m wearing Tauerville Vanila Flash, it’s just not quite spring perfume weather every day yet. We will be in Florida for Easter, so I’ll be pulling out the beachy perfumes!

  2. Love the photo of your sweet doggie. We’ve had lots of bad storms here also, but now the weather is divine, cool and not humid, perfect. Now if we could just skip summer I’d be happy! I’m wearing my spring green fragrances, Dusita’s Issara and Nishane Wu Long cha, along with Bvlgari’s The Vert. I”m also wearing NIcolai’s Fig Tea, moving into Byredo’s Tulipe, which has a lot of nice green leaves and stems like the Flowershop scent you described.

  3. I haven’t worn anything much this week, my frail 91yo mum is in hospital & I don’t want to create any bad associations or irritate her chest more than necessary.
Northern England has had the changeable weather too. Spring sunshine, frosts, high winds, hail & snow? It’s forecast to get warmer this week & mum may return home early next week so fingers crossed things improve all round very soon

      • I forgot to add Happy Anniversary! Congratulations 🎉
Reading the comment I remembered it’s our wedding anniversary on the 12th. 36 years, where has that time gone?
I’d completely forgotten with everything that’s going on.

Thank you to everyone for the good wishes for mum. It looks, very tentatively, like she’s on the mend, but at her age nothing is certain

    • Best wishes to your mum, hopefully she’ll get home soon. Your weather sounds just like ours, every season in one day this week. And sooo cold at night🥶

  4. Easter is my favourite holiday as well. It will be quite busy this year, a few places to go. And there will be leg of lamb, cooked very slowly, and mint sauce. It would be a job to pick a perfume according to the weather this past week, it changes every five minutes it seems. To be expected in April. Hope you had a nice anniversary celebration, it’s a nice month to have gotten married.

  5. Hi there OH,
Late to the party, as always. Sorry.
Your garden and pooch are lovely. Thanks for giving us a look.
    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
We have run the gamut of weather here also. Rain bombs, sunshine, winds and today feels as vernal as you could wish.
Walking my beautiful dog Paris through the neighbourhoods mainly unmown grasses, due to the consistently rainy weather, was a real treat for him.
He is missing his doggie companion keenly and I’m trying to keep him a little bit worn out. We had to euthanise Jin’s boy Jinx on Monday. The speed he went downhill was astounding, a shoulder growth that left him lame, sore and very uncomfortable. Sad day.
Jin and I have been working on getting the new property up to scratch before we get some tenants in. Looks like one of my longest term besties will be moving in there. Very happy about that.
Perfume wise it’s been as all over the place as the weather. I did get the BDK Creme de Cuir out and give it a couple of wears though. LOVELY!
    Portia xx
