Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, September 2, and it is the start of the Labor Day weekend here in the US. It is also the start of a leave I am taking from my job, so yippee! I have some health challenges I need to address before they become dire, and that’s all I will say about that. I’ve been wearing Chanel No. 19 every workday this week, as I patiently explain (again) to my boss how everything will get done; and make it as easy as possible for my small team to actually get everything done. Luckily, most of my colleagues have been very supportive. And I’ve enjoyed No. 19!
Have you come across any great Labor Day sales? I know Sephora is having one; I didn’t see many fragrances that called to me, but they had great prices on some nice hair mists from Tocca and Acqua di Parma, plus some reduced prices on fragrances from those houses.
Labor Day always marks the start of fall for me, although it no longer marks the school calendar as it once did. When I was growing up, school always started right after Labor Day (and it still does, in some Northern states). In the South, school starts in August, sometimes August 1! Nevertheless, there’s something about the start of September and the Labor Day weekend that does mark the start of fall. I’m still wearing hot weather fragrances like Un Jardin Sur le Nil, but I’m gravitating more, as usual, to fragrances that have a bit more spice, depth, and even some woodiness.
We have absolutely no plans for the holiday weekend other than to unwind and relax here at home. Next week, I begin my regimen for better health. Wish me luck! And Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day and thanks for a great post! I, too, am heading for a couple weeks of leave and part of that time will be spent in my dear missed California (Carmel Valley), with my most beloved bestie. We broke up for 4 solid years, from 2/27/18 to 2/27/22. Will be the first time we’re seeing each other since the DC Women’s March weekend in January 2017. Anyway, I recently got some Estee Lauder Private Collection on a donation auction site. It’s from the aughts & smells great. I wore it the other day and it suddenly struck me how much like Chanel No. 19 it is. I have both vintage and modern day No. 19 (& actually prefer the modern formulation). Until I do more testing, I can’t really describe what the similarities and/or differences are, but they really evoke each other, to my nose. I’ve never been attracted to any other EL perfumes. White Linen, Pleasures, Beautiful, Knowing – – they all left (and leave) me indifferent. Chanel is another story…I’m a total chanelhead! Anyway, sorry for the blah-blah. I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing, & very healing retreat!

Best wishes for a successful health journey. I’m on such a journey myself now and thankfully it’s going well. I’m also looking forward to a restful weekend. I need it!! Glad you wore No. 19 for dealing with the work issues. Nothing says “I’m a boss and I’ve got this” like Chanel No. 19! I’m wearing a lot of refreshing tea scents lately.

Thank you! Yes, No. 19 is like fragrance armor.

Good luck with addressing your health issues. A break is good! This weekend is my sons first college football game so we’re heading to Cleveland tomorrow. Still working as team photographer for the high school, which lost a heartbreaker in OT tonight. After going 15-0 last season this “new normal” isn’t nearly as much fun. Happy Labor Day!

Have a great time in Cleveland — fingers crossed for the football game! It’s sad about the HS loss. Last year was their magic season, and those don’t come along often. But if they only lost in OT, it sounds like they could still do very well, and I hope they do. Best of luck to your son and his new team!

Well done on temporarily stepping back to address your own needs. I’m sure not only you will gain from this sabbatical but your employers will too on your return. No 19 is a proper “Boss” fragrance.
I needed a break from the Eau Extraordinaire this week. My eye fell on a mini of EL Beautiful & couldn’t resist. So this week I have wafted round wearing all the flowers both real & imagined! Just Beautiful!

Wishing you the best. I’m still clinging to the last of summer with light things like Heeley Note de Yuzu or else using up some samples.

Nothing recently that I liked enough to buy. If I like it more, I’ll usually make it last longer – the ones I use up liberally are ones I won’t miss.

Although Hermès Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan, which I finished after several more conservative wears, was quite nice and I found that the fruity osmanthus really comes out in the summer compared with the cooler seasons, when it felt more watery.

P.S. Scent Trunk has 20% off this weekend on its Original Editions and DIY Bespoke fragrances. The Original Editions are very interesting and are created by some amazing independent perfumers.
