Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, October 6, and Portia and I both forgot to post “Notes on Notes” on Monday! October 1 just crept up on us, so we’ll post our thoughts on notes next Monday, October 8. So sorry! The notes in question will be nuts, in honor of the fall season and all the nut-gathering that is going on in the Northern Hemisphere, including in my garden. We have both grey squirrels and chipmunks in our back yard; in fact, I think we have a whole chipmunk city under one retaining wall. I actually like the chipmunks, I think they’re very cute and we had them in our back yard when I was growing up in Connecticut. I don’t like squirrels much, mostly because they constantly raid the birdfeeders and hog all the seed.

So, since we’re a week off in “Notes on Notes”, please share in the comments below any particular nuts you’d like one or both of us to discuss!
What fragrance(s) are you wearing these days? I’m on a kick with my Jardin collection; earlier in the week I was enjoying Un Jardin en Méditerrannée and yesterday, I wore Un Jardin Sur Le Toit and my husband liked it very much, so I’ll wear it again this week!

Nuts, hmmm. I love eating nuts any time of year, especially raw, untoasted walnuts. I have smelled a few perfumes with a hazelnut (noisette) note. I think the reformulated Penhaligon’s Elizabethan Rose has a hazelnut note. It’s a lovely fragrance IMHO.
Zoologist Chipmunk and Harvest Mouse both have some nutty notes. Chipmunk does have a hazelnutty note somewhere in its development on my skin. The nuttiness is achieved in Harvest Mouse with vetiver, barley and beer notes. I like both, but not enough to buy a bottle.
There are a number of perfumes out now that claim to have a pistachio note. I haven’t tried any and have no idea how that would smell. Has anyone tried any fragrances with a pistachio note?

I have a box of pistachios & Ive just had a sniff. They don’t smell of anything other than vaguely nutty. I think there must be a new aromachemical that claims to smell of pistachio. Hence the rash of “pistachio” fragrances.

I just tried Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato yesterday. It was pretty decent and lived up to its name, although I’m not sure I could have identified pistachio unaided. Definitely a “nutty” scent. Hazelnut can get a bit overwhelming in perfume.

I haven’t tried most of the Zoologist scents, other than Snowy Owl. I think I would go straight down that rabbit hole and NEED to collect all of them, lol!
I’ve tried Un Jardin à Cythère, which has a pistachio note; stay tuned, as I’ll be writing about it in our next (tardy) Notes on Notes!

A perfume friend & I are doing blind sniffs.
The scent I tried today wasn’t familiar. I was smelling a ton of anise style spices. I was amazed when she told me it was Bengale Rouge!!!
I ran straight upstairs & tried both my sample.
The older, from the initial release was BANG Shalimaresque with baby poop opening.
The second recent sample? Exactly the same as the blind sniff sample. In the dry down they come together. Both samples were bought from Liz directly so I doubt there was a mix up. I prefer to not have the baby poop note. I do struggle with that in Shalimar.

I have always been an almond person – both as a food and as a scent. Maybe because it’s usually sweet and paired with vanilla! Anyway, today has been rainy but the sun seems to be peeking out, hopefully will hold up for tonight’s football game (I hate doing photography in the rain, even though the pics sometimes look very cool.). I’m wearing (you guessed correctly) Stash, simply because I couldn’t cope with making a selection!!

Sorry OH! I’m late to the party again. When your post drops each week I’m always doing stuff, organising stuff etc etc. Then it’s Sunday or Monday and I finally sit down to check all the blogs and perfumery excitement.
HA HA HA How funny we both completely forgot Notes on Notes. I’m locked and loaded now. Nuts was surprising, I enjoyed learning stuff about things I thought I knew.
I can’t even imagine having chipmunks and squirrels in the yard. We do have squirrels in Oz but they are more parkland than suburban gardens. We do get some surprising fauna drop in thought, and some dangerous. Spiders, snakes and various nasty insects. Fortunately our current apartment has had zero lethal intruders so far.
See you Monday for NUTS!
