Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, July 29, and we are on our way north to New England! I’m eager to have at least some cooler nights, if not days. And the lake we will visit has loons!
I’ve been wearing Hermés’ Un Jardin sur le Nil almost daily; it’s a tonic in the hot humid mugginess where I live. Do you have a fallback fragrance that just works for you in a particular season?

Have a great trip! We are having another party tomorrow – 30+ players and families from western PA who will be freshman football players at Case Western with my son. Then we have 10 days before he moves in and starts camp. Time flies! One of my go-to year round perfumes is Nicolaï Fig-Tea. In the summer I like Atelier Pacific Lime as a dumb reach. But I don’t feel like I repeat a lot – too many choices, I feel like I’m neglecting something else if I repeat.

I’ve worn Fig Tea frequently, too, along with other tea fragrances like Bvlgari The Vert and The Bleu and Nishane’s Wu Long Cha. Today I’m wearing Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Bergamotto. I’m finding it so refreshing in the hot humid weather. Ditto for Eau d’Italie’s Acqua Decima.

4711 splashed on from the fridge recently. Others are not being worn at present. I’m still providing care for my frail, very elderly mum & now DH is being investigated for a lump he found & I don’t want any of my loved scents to be tainted with the memories of this time. I have bought a 50ml bottle of new Clarins Eau Extraordinaire. It’s lightly fruity, lightly floral, lightly herbal & lightly green, you get the idea. It has little sillage, lasts only an hour or two on skin, a little longer on clothing but is totally unobtrusive. If, when these stressors are over, I cannot wear it I can gift it or send it into the wild FTGH.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mum and your husband’s health troubles. It is very tough being a caregiver. My husband has had years of caregiving through my 2 major bouts with cancer and numerous orthopedic surgeries. Illnesses are as tough on the caregiver as they are on the actual patient. You’re very smart to pick a perfume that can be tossed while you are going through these tough times. Hope things get better before too long.

I’m so sorry to hear about the lump, I hope your DH is okay. And caring for a frail parent is incredibly stressful. Your fragrance approach makes perfect sense. And I bet you smell great.
