Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, July 22, and it is HOT! It’s abnormally hot almost everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, apparently. We have had days and days of thunderstorms and torrential downpours of rain, which barely cool the ambient temperatures at all. I’m tempted to make Un Jardin Aprés La Mousson and Aprés L’Ondée my only fragrances right now! I’m also enjoying a new fragrance, Carthusia’s A’mmare, a salty, aromatic fragrance that will suit men and women equally well. It’s very refreshing. I found it in a Carthusia boutique in Milan when we were there in May (our first trip outside the US since 2019!). Yay, perfume tourism is back!
Speaking of perfume tourism, my husband and I will be going to Las Vegas this fall, on a business trip for him. It looks as if there is still at least one Guerlain boutique open there, and I plan to visit it! Have any of you been to it? I know Undina has! Any suggestions, anyone? I’m eager to try some of the 2021 versions of the classic Guerlain fragrances like L’Heure Bleue, Vol de Nuit, and Mitsouko, I’ve read good things about them. Thoughts?

I’m also excited that we have tickets to see the Cirque du Soleil show “The Beatles Love”. We’ve seen it once before, on my one and only trip to Las Vegas, and I’ve often said that it might be the only thing that could bring me back to that city. (I should say that I thoroughly enjoyed that trip, but a lot of what many people love about Las Vegas just isn’t my vibe, no offense intended, as I generally don’t like heat, crowds, or casinos). The show was absolutely fantastic and you don’t have to be a lifelong, diehard Beatles fan like me to enjoy it. I can’t wait to see it again!
OOOHHH! Las Vegas! Guerlain in the Bellagio! It was under renovation last time we were in Vegas and we had to go to the Venetian store, which I think is now closed. They are so good there and even send to Australia.
I’ve only seen O in Vegas because we had a friend in the cast, we got the backstage tour too. SO COOL!
I’m at home with C19. Very mild case. get back out again on Monday evening. YAY!
Hopefully these temps cool for you all soon.

I’m so sorry you have COVID! Glad to hear your symptoms are mild, though. I bet the backstage tour of O was amazing, wow! The other thing I enjoyed the last (only) time I’ve been to Las Vegas was lovely lunches at fancy restaurants. A friend who goes there quite a bit told me that’s the way to sample the high-end offerings: the lunch menus often have the same signature dishes, it’s easier to get reservations, and the prices are lower. “Early bird” reservations can help too, and when one is still on East Coast time, an “early” reservation in Las Vegas time is just about right!

OOOH! Good tips for my next visit. thanks.

Las Vegas isn’t my vibe either, but the show looks like something to look forward to! I never cease to be amazed by Cirque du Soleil and other acrobatic performances. Incredible.

I’ve never been to the States, I’m a sunshine & seaside or mountains & lakes girl. I find big cities, noise, traffic & flashing lights overwhelming. INTJ or HSP do you think?
The availability of perfume houses in different countries I find mind boggling. What is fairly ubiquitous here in the UK can be much more difficult to source in the USA & vice versa.
Have a wonderful trip & enjoy your show, that I do envy.

Thank you! BTW, I am INTJ. If you ever come to the US, we do have many lovely mountains and lakes away from cities!

It’s high 80’s here so not terrible hot. (I melt over 90). Graduation party tonight – we have two more after this one. Gearing up for my second big party of the summer as we host a meet and greet for the area Case Western incoming football players and their parents next weekend – there are a dozen of them from our western PA district. I think my DH mostly wants to meet the parents to more effectively plan tailgates lol. Empty nest in 17 days. I think I’ll wear Paris-Deauville tonight. Enjoy the Vegas trip and especially the Guerlain boutique!

Thanks! Enjoy your parties! I like your DH’s plan. Empty nest sounds sobering, but based on my experience, they fly home quite often.

Hi MMKinPA,
Glad it’s not too hot for you and hope the parties are fun.
How are you doing with the Empty Nest thing?

I’m not sure if I should write about it… but our weather is just perfect: for the next 10 days it doesn’t get warmer than 73F. I’m extremely happy!
I like Las Vegas. I’m not sure why: I hate hot weather (that’s why if we go there, it’s usually in winter), I do not gamble, and I don’t even like shows (though, a couple were quite good, I have to admit). And still, there’s something that attracts me to that strange and unique place.
I hope you’ll get the most from your trip.

Enjoy your great weather, we won’t begrudge you! I’m going to try to stay on a no-buy between now and our trip so I will feel no guilt about indulging! And it’s not as if I don’t already have plenty to use, lol.

I’m very happy for you! I love to hear that some places in the US still have nice weather! It’s 103 degrees F. here today with the humidity factor. Yuck! The only activity I’m engaging in is swimming. We’ve finally gotten our pool under control, but it requires constant vigilance. This is the worst year ever with all the heat.

That’s worse than where I live, which is 91 degrees in actual temp but feels like 99 when humidity is included!

I’ve never been to Las Vegas, but I want to go in winter for the food and perfume shopping at the Guerlain boutique. I hope you will take some photos to share with us if you can. I don’t gamble and I also hate the heat, but at least it’s a drier heat in Vegas. I spent one summer in a desert climate in El Paso, Texas, and it was very nice, even though it got up to 112 degrees one day while I was there. It felt really hot, but it was so dry there was no sweating, so a weird experience, at least for me. I understand that global warming and non-native plantings have now increased the humidity in many desert climate areas, which is a shame.

I will definitely take photos! I agree, dry heat is easier to take, although one has to be careful not to overheat because it’s less uncomfortable.
