Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, September 15, and I’m so glad I stayed home and didn’t go with my husband to London as planned. Yes, I missed some anticipated treats like theater and museum shows, as well as some perfume sniffing, but I was here to help our son through some rough post-breakup moments this week, which is all that matters. He’s coping reasonably well, but he hasn’t been sleeping and he has been blindsided by some unexpected surges of grief. Thank goodness, he was already connected to an excellent therapist through university resources, and she has been extraordinarily helpful this week and last.
One of our daughters came over last night and we watched the Barbie movie! It was really fun, and I’ll happily watch it again next week with a close friend who hasn’t seen it yet. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were both excellent. Apparently, Margot Robbie wears fragrances from Chanel and Calvin Klein, as well as some others; she is no longer a brand ambassador for Chanel, though, as her contract with the house expired last year. She does still wear vintage Chanel outfits, though — in Barbie pink! Perfume.com published an amusing list of Barbie-appropriate fragrances, most of which involved pink of some kind. There is, of course, an actual fragrance named Barbie, launched with the movie this summer. Have any of you tried it?
Have you seen “Barbie” yet, or any other recent movies? At home or at a movie theatre? Any recommendations? Have a great weekend!

Have not seen the movie yet, but hope to see soon. We generally watch series on Britbox and Acorn. “The Chelsea Detective “ has a new season out and it’s very entertaining. We’re enjoying the new season of “Unforgotten” and “Van def Valk” on PBS. Definitely recommend both if you like intelligent police procedural stories with interesting characters.
Sending hugs for your son. So glad you and the therapist are there for him. Young love is hard!!

Those series sound excellent, thanks for recommending! One of our favorite shows ever was Foyle’s War, about an English police detective during WW2. I’ll check out these others!

It’s football season, so we won’t see a movie for several months! I spend so much time editing photos, I let my husband choose what to watch and inevitably it’s a game – college, mostly but also NFL – Steelers and whomever is playing on Sunday and Monday nights. We watched Navy-Memphis last night and got to see my son’s high school teammate score Navy’s first TD (the other HS teammate at Navy scores last week.). Anyway -I’m glad you were able to stay home for your son, and hope he feels better about everything soon. Perfume-wise, I wore Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Ginger Piccante this morning but will, of course, spritz some Stash for tonight! And off to Cleveland tomorrow for a 7 pm game. Have a great weekend, all!

Hey OH!
YAY for Barbie. I particularly loved America Ferrera and Simu Liu in the film. What a legend Margo Robbie is becoming. One of the few TV to true Movie Stars.
We are well into spring and walking the dog of an evening means all the jasmine, wisteria and other night scented beauties swirl around us. It’s gorgeous. Paris is so patient while I bury my face in the bushes, hilariously he has even started sniffing the flowers himself and then looking at me for reaction.
Wearing Atelier des Ors Riviera Lazuli. Tart citrus that really pops in the warm weather.

Oh, I love citrus, so should try to sniff Riviera Azuli. I would think I can find it at a shop not too far away, a place selling mostly mass market, but they also have some better brands. I know for certain I have seen Atelier des Ors there. Only drawback, the SAs are not educated about perfume at all, so not really able to guide anyone in finding a new favourite scent.

Ingeborg, you should apply to be an SA there. Not only could you sniff everything new and fabulous, imagine how well you’d lead and educate?!?

Yeah, they definitely have a way with them OH. They’re such a considered perfume house. I remember my first smells of them were at a perfume fair with Pia Long and she pointed out a few of the reasons they were such a special brand. It always stuck with me.

Your son is blessed to have you there for him during this tough time.
We braved the crowds and long lines of pink to see Barbie on opening weekend. It was quite good. And Ryan Gosling as Ken is a visual treat.

Still not seen the movie but DH & friend are taking a week at Anfi Beach soon & I’ll be home alone. Perfect time to watch it.
Yesterday I wore Hera. What beauty Liz Moores creates.
Today I’m in EL Private Collection. Not quite the galbanum bomb of yesteryear but still a spine stiffener of a scent

I have not seen the Barbie movie yet, but mean to do it. It is now out on one of the cinema film streaming sites, so will only have to find time.
We are getting colder weater now, but I just bought a used bottle of Dior Escale à Pondichery (I can’t be bothered with all the accents, sorry), so have been using that for a few days, had been looking for a bottle after finishing the one I had.
Annoyance of the week: My smart watch (a Fitbit Versa 2) suddenly stopped working, so need to replace it. I need tips on the Apple watch, so please share. I need both the health part and the activity/sports part, and being able to use it while swimming.
