Rabbit rabbit! Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. Today is Friday, December 1, and I managed to avoid making any fragrance purchases in the weeklong “Black Friday” sales that were swamping my inbox! I’m patting myself on the back because some were quite tempting. Undina’s Saturday Question last weekend was whether one had bought any fragrance items during the sales, or planned to, which elicited some confessions, lol. I used the sales to get ahead on some Christmas shopping for family members and to buy a new refrigerator.
I feel very productive this week: I’ve gotten ahead on some volunteer work, I went to three workout classes at our local YMCA, and I’ve gotten quite a few plants and bulbs planted, including moving an entire climbing rose. I hope all this activity will help me drop the pounds I gained over Thanksgiving, just in time for Christmas! Also, our son who will graduate this spring got a terrific job offer, which he has accepted and which is located in our city, so he’ll be close by. It’s a happy close to the very tough semester he’s had this fall. We’re very proud of his patience and resilience!
Here it is, December 1, and I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll do another “Scented Advent” series this year. I think if I do, it won’t be every day, because I’ve got a lot of tasks to get done. These include clearing out the lower level of our house so our oldest daughter can use it as an apartment while she applies to graduate school and saves on rent with the goal of buying housing sooner. I do have so many samples and decants that I have plenty of material with which to generate content. Maybe I’ll just do it on Sundays … stay tuned. And come back on Monday for another Portia/OH collaboration!
We put up our tree last weekend and it smells wonderful. We still get a real tree, though my DH wants to revisit the issue of an artificial tree. Maybe for next year … So many holiday preparations going on all around us! Hanukkah starts next week and this Sunday is the first official Sunday of Advent. I need to get out my Advent wreath candles and buy the actual wreath. That is a Christmas tradition I do love.

Congratulations to your son on the new job! I wish I could have gotten some holiday gift shopping done with Black Friday deals, but that did not happen. It will get done, somehow!

I did but fragrance on cyber Monday, for my sons & some make up bits & samples for his partner, let’s call her J. One of the gifts my late MiL gave me was a basket she filled with skin care, hair products, scented body products & fragrance. She presented it beautifully & the items were from different brands & retailers. I’m going to do the same for J. I got them other things too. Though if my youngest doesn’t pull his finger out he’ll have the fragrance & fresh air & an IOU presents!

I am having a heck of time commenting, the WordPress login keeps kicking me out. Anyway, no advent calendar this year, too lazy to try to find the box! Will get a real tree, we are not ready to go artificial not least because I’m not sure where I would store one. SIL’s birthday is 12-23 which adds to the “busyness” – another family dinner to manage and more gifts to work out. (I’m now at the crotchety age where I’d be happy to give up gifts altogether…). Congrats to your son on the job!

You’re just all business this week, well done you. That productivity obviously runs in the genes, congratulations to your son. I have only managed to put up a mantle garland so far. I don’t like putting the tree up before December and I have a busy week ahead so it might have to wait until the following week, unless I can manage a flurry of activity in limited time. It will be great for you to have your chicks nearby, I wish mine lived a bit closer. Remember a few weeks back when you recommend Meet Me on the Corner as a relative of Diorella? Well, last week the Black Friday emails were filling my inbox and I ignored and deleted most of them, then a couple of days ago I got a follow-up reminder from Sarah and the team about their double-up offer, and quick as a flash I ordered it. So I’ve got a 30ml for the price of 15. I will keep the bottle and make a large decant for my Diorella loving friend.

I’m so glad that your son got an offer: these are hard times on the job market, and it’s great that his start will be less bumpy than it could have been.
As to perfume advent calendar, I’ll say: don’t push it! If it comes naturally, do it. If it doesn’t – you’ll do it next year.

Congratulations to your son on his new job. I know he’s excited! No decorations here, just finishing up the cleaning for the grandchildren’s visit. I got some toys for them to enjoy while they are here so those will serve as our holiday decorations. I want to play with their barn and farmyard. There are cute animals and hay to feed them. It took ages to get it unboxed, though. Far too much packaging of everything in the US.
