Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, August, and the Olympic Games have been going on in Paris for a week. I thought the opening ceremonies were just wonderful, and there have been many enthralling athletic contests.
Did you know that a few companies have made special fragrances for this Olympics, such as Memo Paris?I shouldn’t be surprised, given that the Games are in Paris. Apparently the Olympic Village will have a scent shop where athletes can pick out a fragrance. The Perfume Society listed some suggestions here: Olympic-Ready Scents: Fragrances for the Win!.
If you were an elite athlete, what fragrance do you think would inspire you to new heights of achievement?

Hard to imagine being an athlete, but I took a look at the Perfume Society article and am intrigued by Officine Universelle Buly Eau Gymnastique – the smell of new sneakers in a spray bottle seems like it might do the trick! I like the bottle design for Memo Paris Odéon as well, as it captures part of what I love about Paris with the rooftop visuals.

I agree with both of your observations!

Not even close to be an athlete – elite or not 🙂 – but I’m extremely intrigued by Victoire – a limited edition Nicolai Parfumeur released for the Olympics. It contains yuzu note! I can’t bring myself to break my “low-buy” for a blind buy (which on its own was always a no-no for me), but it sounds very appealing.

I love Nicolai fragrances, but I don’t usually love yuzu, so I would definitely not blind-buy this one for myself. I hope many people get to enjoy it, though!

I’m a little disappointed that neither Guerlain nor Pierre Guillaume did an Olympic fragrance. Bummer.
That Nicolai Victoire sounds good.
Luckily I have my heart in three countries and get to cheer for Australia, South Korea and India. Jin is glued to the TV in both English and Korean, he even took a day off work to watch some favorites.

I feel much more engaged with these Olympics than I have been for a while, really since London 2012.

What has been your favourite medal so far OH.
We have had a few but Australia’s Jess in Canoe slalom and Saya in BMX Racing have been super tear jerkers.
Also, France first ever female solo archery medal had the two of us weeping with joy, even though she beat South Korea for the bronze.

I think the US Men’s gymnastics team medal. I just love the diversity and cohesiveness of the team, and I loved “Clark Kent” on the pommel horse!

HA! Yeah, what a wonderful story he has. So inspiring. I love that they’ve made a self confessed nerd into a modern superhero.

I would choose Parfum de Nicolai’s “Victoire” which has a special box decorated with athletes in different sports. It’s so refreshing and would be great in the summer heat in Paris.
I’ve enjoyed everything about this Olympics except the men’s gymnastics commentator, John Rothlisberger, who keeps harping on the minor errors the athletes are making instead of talking about how difficult the routines are and how great the athletes are. Laurie Hernandez is doing a MUCH better job with her commentary on the women’s gymnastics. These are the best athletes in the entire world- let’s celebrate them!
I’m happy to see the French athletes do so well and win so many gold medals. Le’on Marchand is beyond amazing!
