Today is Friday, August 14, and I’m late posting this because we moved our youngest child into his freshman college dorm today! He chose to take with him the Davidoff Cool Water I gave him a few years ago, when he first expressed interest in having a grown-up cologne. It is such a great scent for a teenager or young man — anything other than Axe! Do any of you have kids heading off to college soon? And what is your favorite fragrance for teenaged boys/college men? Happy Friday, everyone!

I don’t spend much time with teenaged boys or college-aged young men these days, but over the last Christmas holidays I met a niece’s new boyfriend and was quite taken by his very peppery fragrance. As I didn’t want to intimidate him by asking him what it was, I asked her later instead, and she said it was some knockoff of Versace.
I remember Cool Water smelling quite nice when a sales person pushed a blotter on me in a mall many years ago.

Yes, Cook Water is a nice one. When I was a teen I was in love with a classmate who wore Aramis Devin. I doubt that any young man would wear this today

Cool Water came to my attention a few years ago when I first read Turin and Sanchez’ book, because they gave it five stars. At the time, I was trying to educate myself (I still am!) about the differences among fragrances, so I was trying to sample as many of their five-stars as I could within reason. When my son asked for a fragrance for Christmas, it sounded as if it would suit him, so I got a sniff and liked it. The deciding factor was its low price and widespread availability; I knew that if he liked it and later wanted to buy it for himself, he could easily do that. I think it’s a bit cruel to get someone with a modest budget hooked on a fragrance they can’t afford, lol!

That’s exciting. Congratulations to your son on starting a new chapter in his life. My son wore a Swiss Army scent in high school and college. It was very nice and fresh smelling. Then he graduated to Acqua di Parma Acqua di Colonia for a number of years. Now his wife buys his fragrances for him.

Is it a wrench losing a kid to college or freeing? Will he be back on weekends or at break time? I love Cool Water, a classic that wears so beautifully even now. My best man at our wedding wears it almost exclusively.
I have gifted a couple of the young adults I know Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme. It’s classic and comfortable, wears nicely and isn’t overwhelming. It also has a range of body wash, deodorant and moisturiser if I remember rightly. You can find it for next to nothing at the discounters and Gucci still has some cache as a brand to the young.

It’s a bit of both! We miss him but we’re pleased to see him spreading his wings. He could come home on a weekend if he wanted, he’s at the university where I work. But I don’t expect that, he’ll be busy with new friends and activities.
