Perfume Chat Room, October 1

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is Friday, October 1, and I can’t believe September is over already! Retailers are in a frenzy of Halloween and harvest, and I’ve started to see displays of Christmas wares. My husband and I are excited about an upcoming trip to New England for a family wedding later this month, though we’ll have to try to remember what layers of clothes we’ll need, as we’ve lived in the South for almost 30 years now. I’m really looking forward to a few days off work, it has been a busy and hectic semester so far.

I mentioned a while back that I had been asked to work with a playwright and composer on a “scent score” for the musical they’re writing; there will be a staged reading of the play this month (without scent for now), which will be exciting. I’m having coffee with the playwright this weekend for an update on the project.

What are you looking forward to this month?

  1. Good morning! I missed last week – in the throes of high school fall sports – this week I have a game (or two) every day but Sunday. It’s nice to be working – still not teaching my preschool music – but it’s a grueling schedule for a few weeks as I try to accommodate my new clients. (Sounds weird – I have never had my own business before, even though this is tiny…). Glad the temps have cooled here, I’m running out of warm weather options for my 365 project (still many samples, but I don’t always want to rifle through – and I want to wear perfumes that are enjoyable!). Being a Favorite Friday- I’m thinking of wearing SJP Stash today. Definitely a top ten perfume for me.

    • Yes, I am excited about it! I’ve been taking classes in playwriting for a while, which is how I met this playwright (she led a writers’ group), and we had talked a lot about my fragrance hobby, which is why she asked me to do this.

  2. Exciting things going on for you! I’m visiting with the grandchildren again twice in October and early November and hubby and I may take a cross country trip after that. We need to go somewhere before we go stir crazy just going back and forth between Florida and Alabama. I’ve never been to New England at all and I have lots of info on great gluten free restaurants to try in that area from my celiac support group so that would be lovely for sure! If I wait too long there will be snow everywhere there. I’m still swooning over Ormonde Jayne’s Osmanthus Elixir, but I am finally getting my Guerlain Iris Torreife mailed to me from Suzan @ Shop France, Inc. Can’t wait!!

  3. No big plans for October, but it’s fine: I love this season, so I’m fine just living from now through the end of the year. The only plan I have is to try to get back into some type of physical activity (see, I’m being so cautious that I don’t even call it “exercising” 😉 ).

Look forward to reading more about your interesting project!

  4. LOVE that your scent script is happening for the play OH. So cool.
We are set to be released from lockdown here in Sydney October 11 in a 3 stage release culminating in all freedoms Dec 1. The relief is real. Hotels are starting to get in touch again!

Fragrantly I’ve bee going through some boxes trying to cull a few. Progress is slow.
