Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, October 14, and we are having all our windows hand-washed, inside and out, top to bottom! Can you tell that I’m very excited about this? Between procrastination and the pandemic, it has been YEARS since we got this done, and I was lucky enough to find a great company, recommended by other people in old houses (important because old window glass is fragile), and available this week! Timing matters because we are hosting a program at our house next Thursday — the first time we’ve had more than just a couple of friends over since pre-pandemic. So we’re getting the house spiffed up.
I’ve been enjoying this week’s community project at Now Smell This, which is to wear fragrances by independent perfume houses. So I’ve worn Musc Intense, by Patricia de Nicolai, Violet Ida, by Miller Harris, Ormonde Jayne Privé, and today, Futur, by Robert Piguet, which is green and fabulous!
Have you been wearing any perfumes by particular favorite independent perfume houses?
I like Violet Ida very much

Me too! It’s floral and powdery but in a good way, to my nose.

The apartment building across the street gets their windows cleaned regularly but ours doesn’t… Oh well! I’ve been sampling Hermetica. Sandalsun is a nice hazelnut creamy vanilla sandalwood and I think I can pick out the myrrh note they mention. Not craving a full bottle though.

Yesterday I wore Dame Dark Horse (combined with Moschino Toy Boy) and earlier in the week, 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul. Today, of course, my lucky Stash – although it hasn’t been working so well for our team. Our house smells of paint – we are retiling the tub surround in my son’s bathroom and repainting as well. Have a great weekend!

Great choices! Sorry to hear that Stash isn’t bringing the hoped-for good luck. And good luck to you with the retiling and painting; I do love a nice fresh coat of paint! Picking paint colors was one of the small fun things about our forced restoration after a pipe disaster during lockdown. But all is well now!

Having taken note of DH comment that he enjoyed perfumes I wore last week, Joop Le Bain & Black Phantom. He’d missed them during my summer of just one scent! Today I wore JLo Glow, which we both enjoy. Yeah I am that celeb scent wearer & proud of it.
This afternoon I was dog sitting for our neighbour whilst she & her other half sent her dad to his final rest. She needed a big hug when I handed the key back & now I’m wearing her Opium as well. A surprisingly successful layering in unhappy circumstances.
DH has an indwelling IV line in & starts his chemo as an inpatient on Monday, so I’ve booked things to do whilst he’s there. He will be two cities away & the chemo is particularly unpleasant, so he’s asked that we just facetime & he can feel like hell in peace.

Best of luck to your hubby and hope that the chemo isn’t too 💩y. A tough road to travel.

I’m sorry about your DH, I hope it’s not too awful for him.

I’ve never given much thought to the fragility of old glass though I should as I’m a tad heavy-handed. You’ll not miss anything going on in the area now that you’ll have a bird’s eye view. Every time I clean the windows it buckets down with rain afterwards, my equivalent of a rain dance. You’ve been talking about Violet Ida for a few weeks now and it’s making me want it all the more. It is one of those rare MH fragrances that really worked on me. Loved it. I will need to get my UK mule on the case if I want a bottle. Today it was Ormonde Jayne Elixir from a sample. Gorgeous, and if a bottle fell from the sky I’d gladly catch it.

BTW, if you’re yearning for a new purchase, I got a 40% off coupon code for Fragrancenet from another site: BGPL2. They have quite a few Atelier Cologne fragrances, if you’re sad AC has stopped selling in the US and Canada.
