Welcome to the Friday Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday February 24, and I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of another month! If you didn’t get a chance to read it yet, please check out the most recent collaboration between me and Portia Turbo of Australian Perfume Junkies, a Counterpoint post about Chanel No. 5. We had a lot of fun with it!
Drumroll, please — I’ve committed to retiring as of August 31 this year! I’m very excited to move into the next phase and have more time to explore my many interests and enjoy my family and friends.
Any big news in your life this week?

Congrats on your retirement! That’s super exciting. My not-so-exciting this week is my second go-round with covid, and this time I have lost my sense of smell despite the rest of my symptoms being akin to a medium cold. Disconcerting. I haven’t been wearing much perfume since I can’t enjoy it myself.

I can stmpathise, I lost my sense of smell for two weeks with my mild case of covid. That was the most worrying thing for me. I kept smelling every single thing to check if I could get any wisp of smell, and after ten days it started to come back slowly. By day 14 or 15 it was properly back. Keep wearing perfume!

I’m so sorry you got Covid again. It’s so unpleasant. I’ve managed to escape it, but I don’t go out much. I hope you get your sense of smell back quickly.

Congratulations on making that momentous decision and hope you really enjoy retirement when it comes. You’ll have so much time for travel and perfume shopping. I’m delighted to say that I’ve recently purchased Violet Ida and my friend is muling it to me this weekend. Really looking forward to its arrival. It’s my birthday next week so I’m justifying my crazy buying of late by saying it’s a happy birthday to me. There’s another one making its way to me but I’ll hold that for next week.

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! You will love retirement so much. You can sleep in or wake up early and do gardening before it gets hot. Your time is your own now! I love it so much. I’m reading a lot, can exercise when I want and visit the grandchildren when I want. The biggest challenge is not to waste too much of the precious time.

Wow, congratulations! Nothing momentous like that for me but I did experience a bit of synergy between hobbies this week as I was listening to music while sketching dogs and suddenly really wanted to learn a song on the ukulele, so I switched to doing that, and then came back to finishing the dog sketching later. (All outside of work hours, of course!) Quite a contrast to the long stretches of time when I wasn’t motivated to touch any of those things! It’s a bit like the philosophy of giving a task to a busy person if you want it to get done.

WOW! Retirement. Congratulations, that’s such a big deal.
It’s World Pride/Mardi Gras here in Sydney. A lot going on.
Counterpoint was really fun this month. I’m wracking my brains for our next fragrance….

Well done on the decision to retire. It takes time to adjust to not having an imposed routine but the freedom is wonderful once you get used to it.
Yes, I did something momentous this week. I completed my very first blog post!!! I started the draft on 1st Jan 2013 & completed it on 22nd Feb 2023. Yes I prevaricated for a whole decade! That’s some going even for me. I bit the bullet & actually published so I don’t clog up other peoples blog replies. Of course I’ll still comment, but hopefully more succinctly!
If anyone is interested my blog is called alitykescents not very inventive but will do what it says on the tin.

I’m sure you know what I’m trying to write. First typo was mine. Second was my iPhone autocorrect going rogue

I got it. No worries. Autocorrect is the bane of modern existence!
