Perfume Chat Room, December 15

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is Friday, December 15, and yes — I forgot to post last Friday. So sorry! Well, the refrigerator saga continues — the new one got delivered this morning, and it turns out it is 1/2 inch too wide for the space where the old one was, despite my multiple attempts at measuring. However, we think we can deal with it by hiring someone to adjust the kitchen counter on one side, so we’re keeping the new fridge. Right now, it’s sitting in the middle of our kitchen floor, plugged in and running, but empty until we can move it into place. Luckily, our plan was to keep the old one anyway and move it downstairs, so we still have a full-sized, functioning refrigerator. Never a dull moment around here!

We’re very happy that our son is home for his university holiday break, and he has a job lined up for post-graduation! We’re all happy to see the end of this difficult semester for him, and end on such a positive note. Christmas preparations are in full swing, and the tree is up and decorated. If you celebrate Christmas, how are your preparations going? If you celebrate Hanukkah, which ends tonight, I hope you had a blessed and peaceful holiday.

What smells do you most associate with the winter holidays? For me, it has to be the scent of evergreens. Pine, cedar, balsam — I love them all.

  1. We managed to get a tree and a few other decorations up, and I installed the outdoor lights at the beginning of the week. I love the piney smells, but anything deep works for me this time of year. Today I’m wearing Ormonde Woman. I played the flute at a memorial service this afternoon and tonight I am taking photos at the high school percussion concert. Son is coming home tonight, and will be home until January 15. Unfortunately most of the post holiday time will be tied up with emptying our kitchen for the renovation, but at least I’ll have a strong young man to carry boxes!! Have a great weekend, all!

  2. It has been strange, since retiring we imagined we would finally have undisturbed family holiday periods. Whilst working one of us worked part is each Christmas or New Year. Then the eldest fell in love & her family expect holidays to be spent with them. He always worked Boxing Day preparing the post Xmas sale. The Covid hit & last year DH was discharged from a chemo cycle on Xmas Eve.
The decorations didn’t even come out last year!
Holiday time smells of satsumas. That’s about as special as it gets
    Happy celebration

  3. I’ve been enjoying wearing Warszawa by Puredistance this season. I can imagine I am at a Christmas market in Europe, rather than boring old Texas! I will have ten family members descending on my house Monday through Christmas, so busy times!

  4. We haven’t done any decorating either. Without children or grandchildren around no need for it. I have 2 little glass trees out and that’s it. I am burning lots of lovely candles. Spicy, woody and vanilla scents equal holidays for me. The grandchildren were here last weekend and we enjoyed having them, but they’re too young to notice the absence of Christmas decorations. The toys I had for them were the main attraction.

  5. Hope you have an excellent season, full of fun, food and fabulous fragrance.
We pared back Xmas last year and this year it’s going to be even less. Just the day and next with my BFFs family.
Usually I’m already rocking the Xmas fragrances but having been in Europe Nov/Dec, seeing snow and Xmas markets galore 40C feels like a bit of a let down. We are happy in the heat, no problem. It just feels a bit silly to do all the big events and hot food etc
We also haven’t decorated. Just the Xmas cards on a string from the cornices.
