Perfume Chat Room, October 18

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is Friday, October 18, and we are at the end of a short beach trip. Weather has been spectacular! We had a great view of yesterday’s “supermoon” too, and several lovely sunsets and sunrises. I love going to the beach in the fall. The temperatures are much more bearable than they are in a Southern summer, and there aren’t many people. We can leave sliding doors open (with screens) and enjoy the sound of the waves. On this trip, we’ve seen quite a few dolphins as well as the usual birds. The one thing I do miss from visiting New England beaches are the beach roses. You really don’t see them down here, and they smell so wonderful!

We will drive home tomorrow, stopping along the way in one of our favorite historic towns. Do you have any special plans for this weekend, fragrant or otherwise?

  1. I’ve never seen or smelled beach roses. I’m sure they smell heavenly. No plans here for the weekend, just being outside enjoying the lovely low humidity weather, which is so rare in Florida! I’m enjoying my amber and ‘big’ rose perfumes like Ormonde Jayne’s Ta’if very much now. I am wearing a new amber Ambre Kashmir by Premiere Note that is so delightful. It’s very potent, with peach and mandarin topnotes over an abundance of resins– amber, labdanum, benzoin, etc. Very lovely. I’m layering it with a spray of a dryer amber to tone it down a bit.

  2. Lovely roses! We finally have “football weather” here, which is a nice change after weeks of hot and humid on Fridays and Saturdays. We are off to Cleveland tomorrow for my son’s night game, will stay overnight. Not nearly as nice as a beach trip!

  3. Your getaway sounds lovely OH.

This week Jin has prepared his Mum’s Korean Bone Broth Soup and nine different side dishes. We had a few mates over today (Sydney Saturday) and they loved it. I’m not such a fan of the soup but love a few of the side dishes. Last night we had some leftover steak so I had that with them.
After the Korean extravaganza I made scones and we had them with Jin’s home made mandarin conserve, our friend TinaG’s lemon curd butter and whipped cream.
Jin had put a lot of his heart and soul into it all and tomorrow some of his Korean friends will drop by and be given packs of the side dishes. None of them make their own in Australia and when Jin does a big batch they get super excited. He’s a good cook and does hometown stuff really well. If they eat with us sometimes there are happy homesick tears.

  4. I haven’t seen or smelled beach roses yet, but now I know about their existence, so thank you.
Your vacation sounds lovely, I’m glad you enjoyed it.

My weekend suddenly got quite busy: we went to a chocolate fundraiser festival in one of the local churches – it proved to be better than I expected, and we ate (and smelled) a lot of interesting chocolates. And today we’re having some friends over for dinner (we haven’t done it in several months, so it’s an event for us). I’ll wear No 19 extrait (finishing a spontaneous week of irises).
