Rabbit rabbit! Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, August 1, and I remembered to say “rabbit rabbit” for good luck, so we may be off to a good start. It has been beastly hot all week, with the heat index well above 100 degrees Fahrenheit on most days due to the high humidity. In the last two, days, we’ve had some rain showers which have helped a bit, and relieve me of some watering duties in the garden.
I’ve been inside a lot, and I’m trying to do a bit of work every day to organize my “stuff.” This includes fragrances; I’m using the Perfumist app to at least list what I have, whatever the size (I have many travel sizes from when I had a monthly subscription).

I enjoyed those subscriptions very much and they introduced me to some scents that are now firm favorites. I stopped using them a while ago, because my collection had gotten very large, but I might resume subscribing in the future. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying how easy it is to catalog them using an app, especially since I expect August will continue to be too hot and muggy for me to spend much time outside.
Do you have any big plans for August?
OOOHHHH! What App are you using to catalogue OH?
Hope the heatwave breaks and gives you some lovely Indian Summer mid temps for a while.
We are wet. It’s been gorgeous. Lots of rain with nice 30-40 minute breaks for dog walking. Last night I walked home from the Light Rail Station in the just heavier than spitting rain. It was lovely.
I’m hoping to finish my course this month. It’s a Celebrant Course and has taken over 1.5 years. At this point I just want it to be over.
LOVE your Travel Size stash. They look so good all lined up.

Good for you on finishing your course soon! The app is called Perfumist, and I like it because you mostly tap to add scents to your list.

AH! Very cool.
When the course is done I’m going to try it.

Glad you’ve been staying cool inside – we’ve had some hot days too, but it’s cooled back down. Those metal travel spray containers are pretty! I’ve never used a subscription for perfume, but can imagine they take the pressure off for discovery of new favorites.

Yes, a subscription makes it easier to try lots of new fragrances if that’s what you want to do! I used Scentbird first, then Royalty Scents, and I liked both

Such orderliness puts me to shame.
Thank you for the tip about the Perfumist app. It’s so easy to use! Any more tips for cataloguing please send them my way.
I joined a couple of decant subscription services over this side of the pond. I’m a jinx as they both closed not long after I joined.

All those samples look lovely. I had never heard of Royalty Scents sampling service. I’ll have to check it out. I’ve been spritzing citrus and green scents and thinking cool thoughts. I’m loving Penhaligon’s Daphne Flower, with loads of gorgeous galbanum and moss notes.
We are planning a trip to Greenville, SC to visit husband’s brothers so that should be fun. I’m going to check out some restaurants with good gluten free food there. Yum.

I really liked Daphne when I tried it at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this spring, so glad you’re enjoying it! It may go on my list eventually.

P.S. I’m sure you’ll find lots of good food in Greenville! I’ve read that there are some excellent farm-to-table restaurants there. Do share what you discover!

Love this week’s chat room update! Cataloging perfumes with an app is such a smart idea—it really helps keep track when the collection grows faster than expected. I’ve been exploring a few new options myself, and honestly, some niche picks surprised me. For anyone looking to add variety, I’d recommend checking out Lattafa Best Perfume selections—affordable, long-lasting, and perfect for both hot summer days and cozy evenings.
