Perfume Chat Room, October 31

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is Friday, October 31, and it is Halloween! Happy Halloween, fellow fragrance fans!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is a big deal in our neighborhood. They actually block off some streets in the middle of the neighborhood to keep cars out and allow for safer trick-or-treating. And tonight’s weather is perfect, so I’m sure we will see many kids in costume! We’re ready!

On a fragrance topic, I was delighted to get a request this morning from my niece who is getting married next fall, asking if I would do a workshop to make wedding fragrances for her and her fiancé. I’m so tickled! Of course I said yes, and have asked her to send me the names of some scents they enjoy. Luckily, there’s a niche fragrance boutique nearby that holds these workshops, so I’ll ask one of my daughters (who will be a bridesmaid) to go with me.

I’m very curious to find out what scents the happy couple particularly like. It’s always interesting to hear what their generation does and doesn’t like in fragrance. Our son stopped by the other day to pick up some things, and he smelled great — it was the Azzaro Most Wanted Parfum that he asked for and got last Christmas.

Any thoughts on or experiences with wedding fragrances? Do tell!

  1. I don’t remember  what I wore for my wedding, if anything – wasn’t into perfume back then.  I am very curious what “regular” young people like.   We should get quite a few trick or treaters here – lots of kids in the neighborhood.   I’m wearing Ormonde Woman today – the black hemlock seemed appropriate for Halloween.

    • And that’s such a gorgeous fragrance! I’m pretty sure I wore Diorissimo on my wedding day, because that was my top fragrance at that time and I had lilies of the valley in my bouquet and my husband’s boutonnière.

  2. We haven’t had a single trick or treaters here. I saw some at the end of our little bit of the cul de sac. We are devoid of children now. Lots of fireworks though. Poor Jarvis was so stressed.
I wore Nicky Verfailles Grain de Sables on our big day, almost 40 years ago. DH probably wore Quorum.
My son wore Bleu de Chanel at his wedding. His bride chose to wear JML Peony & Blush Suede over the Papillon Hera I offered.

  3. Hey OH!
We don’t have a big Halloween culture here in OZ. There are always some house or club parties and every year I co-host a big HalloQueen Trivia fundraiser for people living with HIV. This year we raised over $25,000 profit.
Back in 2014 when we sold the big house we had our first ever street Trick or Treaters. Luckily there’s always a stash of those singly packed mini bars in the house. I was leaving for a gig and scared the bejesus out of a few of them. It was hilarious and the parents LOVED it.

Now you’ve got me interested to sniff Azzaro Most Wanted Parfum!

I’ve done a couple of those Perfume Creation Experiences. So much fun and such an interesting learning adventure. Smelling the solo units of scent was revelatory. You’re going to have a ball.

  4. I don’t recall what fragrance, if any, I wore on my wedding day. I would probably recommend a soft white floral for a bride. LOTV, jasmine, magnolia, something like that.
