Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, November 15, and I apologize for not posting last Friday. Without going into details, as this isn’t a place for politics, I was dejected. However, the sun rose brightly this morning, the sky is blue, my garden got some good rain this week including last night, and I will plan my next steps while planting more in my garden. I still have lots to get done to address the new raised beds in the back, and I still have to clear out the remains of the summer vegetable garden, plant bulbs, move plants, and do LOTS of weeding. Thankfully, the mosquitoes are pretty much gone by now though they put up a good fight and kept biting through last week.
Because I’ve been so immersed in tending to my roses, and roses are on my mind, I’ve continued wearing some of my rose fragrance even though fall is now truly upon us. Most recently, I’ve worn Christian Dior’s La Colle Noire, named after M. Dior’s home in Grasse. It is just lovely. It smells like my garden roses after rain, so it’s very appropriate for this week!
Do you ever feel that you choose your fragrances according to weather, as opposed to tying them to a season?

I definitely have rainy day fragrances. Apres l’Ondee, or some of my snuggly gourmandish ones when it’s also chilly. Today I chose Teo Cabanel Barkhane. A more masculine amber than my beloved Alahine but equally interesting and thankfully I don’t perceive the alleged cumin! My football photography season is over and only one more game for my son. I’ll spend the next week or two creating photo books for my high school players and then I’ll get a break from both shooting and editing – yay!

Apres l’Ondee is always a great choice for rainy weather! I also like Un Jardin Apres la Mousson for warm rainy weather.

It’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve started gravitating to fragrances differently according to season, so other factors still have a lot of influence. I still wore Note de Yuzu on several cooler days.

Beautiful roses! I usually wear fragrances by season, but sometimes for specific weather, like for a rainy day. I’ve been wearing Dior’s La Colle Noire a lot myself lately. It’s so gorgeous and calming.

It really is. Now that I’ve seen M. Dior’s childhood home in Granville, and his mother’s rose garden (restored), I must add La Colle Noire to my bucket list.

When it’s very, very cold, as the UK will be next week I pull out the vintage Opium.
Fortunately, we will be in Gran Canaria, so basking in 20+c temps. I do mean basking as it won’t be as hot as last April.
I plan to smell of nothing more than factor 50 sun lotion & whatever duty free I choose.
Fingers crossed on all the above, I don’t want to jinx it

That sounds like a wonderful trip! I went to the Canary Islands many years ago with my family, as a little girl. I don’t remember much about it except that we enjoyed it very much.

We come here for winter & spring sun, not the culture. We risk the calima ( Saharan sand mist, thunder storms & tropical rain) cos it is still warm. From April until til the end of Oct it’s always in the 30c & over range. Too hot for me.
