Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.
Today is Friday, June 26 — the last Friday in June! Yesterday I went to Nordstrom to look at floor length dresses to wear at my niece’s wedding, as I was tired of the options I already had at home (it has been YEARS since I bought a formal gown). While there, I stopped by their Jo Malone counter, and was happy to see this summer’s limited release collection, the Veggies collection, which I had seen earlier this month at Heathrow Airport.

I tried them again, and liked them again, so I got the discovery set of three 9 ml bottles. As always, the Nordstrom sales associate was lovely, which also led me to buy something. Good service matters!
Interestingly, the one I like best at first spray is Velvety Butternut, followed by Carrot Blossom, but after dry down the one I like best is Scarlet Beetroot. The scent I really loved, though, was the Green Tomato Vine candle and diffuser!

Of course, I’m an avid gardener and I have my own vegetable garden, so this was destined to appeal to me. The veggie colognes aren’t particularly green, so don’t let that scare you off (I also love strong green fragrances, lol).
Have you tried any of these?
I haven’t seen this display! Butternut squash perfume? How unexpected! Is there an eggplant one too?

Sadly, no, but what a good idea!

The interesting thing is that beets, carrots, and butternut squash all have higher levels of natural sugars than many other vegetables, which lets the perfumer play with that sweetness.

I’m a fan of tomato & greenhouse fragrance. I wonder why they didn’t do the diffuser/candle fragrance as a personal fragrance?

I agree! There is a Tomato Leaf hand wash. Do you have any particular favorites among tomato fragrances?

the Jo Malones sound fun. I am trying to get back to regular perfume wearing after my shoulder replacement surgery earlier this month. A couple of weeks of no perfume; started missing it.

Ouch, shoulder surgery. I hope it went well! Yes, the Veggie Collection is fun and pleasing. Nothing groundbreaking but not everything can or should be. I hope you’re recuperating well.

I’m so out of the loop OH but that display looks so fun. Will you wear your discovery set for travel? 9ml is Travel Size, yeah?

Yes, it’s a good size for travel! I might take one of these on our next trip. I’m going to explore how they might layer with other JM scents, or even Jo Lives (the brand she created after leaving JM). I recently got a full bottle of Jo Loves’ Red Truffle, massively marked down at T.K. Maxx, and I wonder what some of the Veggie scents might smell like with it.
