Perfume Chat Room, March 20

Welcome to the weekly Perfume Chat Room, perfumistas! I envision this chat room as a weekly drop-in spot online, where readers may ask questions, suggest fragrances, tell others their SOTD, comment on new releases or old favorites, and respond to each other. The perennial theme is fragrance, but we can interpret that broadly. This is meant to be a kind space, so please try not to give or take offense, and let’s all agree to disagree when opinions differ. In fragrance as in life, your mileage may vary! YMMV.

Today is Friday, March 20, and we are on our way home from Athens! We’ve had a great trip to Barcelona then Greece, but we’ll be glad to get home. Meanwhile, I hit the airport duty-free store to investigate new-to-me fragrances, and tried Lefko by Korres. Its dominant notes are lily of the valley, peony, and rose, so — surprise! I like it very much, lol. Other notes include musk, powdery notes, and white sandalwood.

Some comments on Fragrantica compare it to Byredo’s Blanche, but I haven’t sampled that recently enough to know. Lefko is soft, floral, and pleasant, well suited to spring. Since today is the vernal equinox in this hemisphere, that feels right.

Have you tried any new-to-you spring fragrances lately?

  1. Hope the trip was fantastic! We are in Florida, visiting friends in Naples/Marco Island. I can’t tell you the last time I tried anything new. Happily wearing my Bronze Goddess in the sun!

  2. Did you get up to the Acropolis through Plaka & down the other side. The museum & the excavations? One of our best days out ever. Up for the 4am Dolphin & back on Poros for around 8pm. Long day but worth every single nanosecond. It is burned in my brain 20 years later. The sunrise sat in the Acropolis was so quiet & spectacular.
Hope you enjoyed Athens as much as we did

  3. Woo Hoo! for your adventures OH.
I’ve tried neither Lefko nor Blanche but they sound very pretty and fecund.

Nothing new in my nose for a while. I’ve been wearing stuff I love. There are a bunch of new samples and decants I’ve been ignoring. Soon.

  4. Lefko sounds lovely and I think I would like it, too. I am loving 2 new iris scents from Danner and Fleming, Iris Trousseau and Iris Altesse. This indie brand works with chosen farmers and grows its own iris plants, dries and prepares the orris roots, ages them and creates the perfumes from these elements. I watched a video showing the farmer who grows the plants, harvests them, dries and stores the orris roots and all the steps of creation of the perfume. As someone who grew up on a farm, I was hooked. I love how the grower is as important to the process as the perfumer. They only have 3 fragrances since each one is so labor and time intensive and they make a limited number of bottles each year. It reminded me a lot of wine making since the type of iris plant and the terroir in which the plants are grown influences the final product in many ways. The perfumes are very concentrated (2.5 to 4% orris in the perfume), longlasting, and smell divine on my skin. Indigo Perfumery in Ohio is the only store that sells this brand in the US I believe.
